I strongly support this resolution. I am truly grateful to those who've crafted it and to the co u IV l for-'
hearing it. The council doing this signals that addressing harmful militarism where the impact is greatest
is necessary to protecting the community, the environment, and the collective future we hope to improve
upon for generations to come.
US Military training at P6hakuloa has already caused serious harm -burning nearly 20,000 acres,
contaminating the land, and threatening endangered species. Beneath -this area lies a major aquifer that
supplies fresh water to Hawai'i Island, and the military's track record shows they are not equipped to
protect it.
There is also serious concern about depleted uranium left in the soil, which can become airborne during
exercises and has known health risks.
As an O'ahu resident, I've felt and experienced first hand the what getting their water poisoned by the
U.S. Military and having to advocate to hold them responsible. This is not something I would wish upon
anyone anywhere. And the council has an opportunity to put a hard stop to having that happen.
P6hakuloa'is a wahi pan@- a sacred place with deep cultural and ecological significance. Continued
military use is incompatible with its conservation status and the values of aloha'aina.

Please support this resolution to protect the land, water, and people of Hawaii. Please make it so my
keiki and my keiki's keiki's keiki will, not have to do the work of stopping the military from desecrating our
'aina and destabilizing our life ways in generations to come.
