As a member of the Hawaii Island Fentanyl Task we have been educating our residents of the op!oid epidemic on our island and in their community. When the Task Force stared in 2022, CDC reported 19 deaths due to OD. For the year ending 2024 that number has risen to 53. More work must be done! One proven way is the distribution of Naloxone to the public, business(private/public) community organizations, clubs, faith base etc. Bill 71 requiring establishments serving liquor to have Naloxone readily available and personnel trained how to administer it, will save a person life. My sincere appreciation to Councilman Hustice, who helped the Task Force distribute Naloxone in Waikoloa and Waimea, and Chair Inaba for champing Bill 71. Malama Pono Wally Lau Comm. o • 0 Ref.
