`O Ka'n Kakou (OKK) is a 501(c)3 rion-profit organization of volunteers
dedicated to serve residents of the Ka'n District. Each year, OKK hosts a free
luncheon on Veteran's Day for local veterans and their families. Ka'n is an
extremely large district and this Veteran's Day event is the only one of its kind in
the entire district. Many veterans live in the Ka'n District and OKK wishes to
honor them and their ohana on Veteran's Day. The 2024 OKK Veteran's Day
luncheon was poorly attended due to a lack of awareness in the community.
Many veterans expressed disappointment that weren't aware of the event until
after it occurred.
For 2025, OKK endeavors to increase awareness and participation in this
Veteran's Day luncheon by purchasing advertising in the Ka'a newspaper which
is mailed to every Ka'u household for free. Additionally, OKK wishes to
purchase 2 plastic signs for placement on Highway 11 and an event banner to help
promote the event. These signs and banner will be kept in secure storage and will
be used for subsequent years' Veteran's Day luncheons. OKK is requesting
funding assistance to procure these signs, banner, adverstising and to purchase
food to be served at the luncheon.
On behalf of all OKK volunteers, members and Ka'u District Veterans and their
ohana, we respectfully request that the Hawai'i County Council vote to approve
this request for Contingency Funds for this honorable event.
Sincerely,
Timothy DeLozier, OKK Board Member
Comm.
