I believe it is critical that the county purchase this one -of -a -kind tract of land so that is can be preserved in perpetuity. Its important characteristics are undeniable and are as follows: -Since the 2018 eruption, lower Puna has had very limited ocean access. We need to save our places that provide access for fisherman and opihi collectors as well as families who have already been enjoyingthis area for centuries. -The area is a hupua'a, home to one of the older, undisturbed village sites on the Puna coast. Culturally, there is no other place like this as it was the first place settled by the early Polynesians who came here. -We don't need any more subdivisions with tiny lots and no services. We need to preserve the last best places to support our Native Hawaiins as well as other local populations who want to enjoy the area. -There is only one place like this. When it is gone, there's no returning. I implore you to purchase this important piece of history and ocean access so that it can be preserved, as it so rightfully deserves.
