HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 429 Draft 01 2024-2026COUNTY OF HAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAI`I RESOLUTION NO. 429 25 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE HAWAI°I COUNTY COUNCIL'S PROFOUND CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF FIRE CHIEF KAZUO SCOTT KU`IKA`ALEOPELEPOHAKALANI LEITHEAD TODD, HONORING HIS LIFE OF PUBLIC SERVICE AND EXTRAORDINARY LEADERSHIP. WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Fire Chief Kazuo Scott Ku`ika`aleoPelepohdkalani Leithead Todd on December 14, 2025; and WHEREAS, Chief Todd died unexpectedly at the age of 45, leaving a profound void within the Hawaii Fire Department, the County of Hawaii, and the fire service `ohana across the State of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, Chief Todd dedicated more than two decades to the people of Hawaii County through steadfast service, leadership, and commitment to public safety; and WHEREAS, Chief Todd's leadership extended statewide, including his service as Chair of the State Fire Council, strengthening fire safety, preparedness, and resilience across Hawaii; and WHEREAS, Chief Todd will be remembered as a respected leader who led with humility, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility to his community, and who advocated passionately for the brave men and women serving in the Hawaii Fire Department; and WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council recognizes that the work of a fire chief is measured not only by emergencies met and lives saved, but also by the culture of readiness, training, mutual aid, and public trust built over years of service, all of which Chief Todd advanced with dedication and integrity; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that it hereby extends its deepest condolences to the `ohana, loved ones, and colleagues of Fire Chief Kazuo Scott Ku`ika`aleoPelepohakalani Leithead Todd and expresses its heartfelt sympathy to all who grieve this loss. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii County Council hereby honors and recognizes Fire Chief Todd for his lifetime of public service and his enduring contributions to the safety and well-being of the people of Hawaii County and the State of Hawaii. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to Chief Todd's wife, Mineko "Mika" Todd; daughter, Akane Todd; mother, Bobby Jean Leithead Todd; father, Steve Todd; brother, Christopher Todd; and sister, Kathy Loving; Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Volpe of the Hawaii Fire Department; the Hawaii County Fire Commission; the Honorable C. Kimo Alameda, Ph.D., Mayor of the County of Hawaii; and the Honorable Joshua B. Green, M.D., Governor of the State of Hawaii. Dated at Hilo , Hawaii, this 7th day of January , 20 26.
