Subject: RESOLUTION 286-25 / HONOLULU LANDING PONC PURCHASE - IN SUPPORT
Aloha Mai Kakou:
The purpose for this written testimony is to express my full support of Resolution 286-25, which
addresses the PONC purchase of Honolulu Landing in Puna Makai. Mahalo nui to all who have
worked diligently to assure the purchase of this property is realized.
The initial application submitted to the PONC program was in 2007, and subsequently approved. It
has been eighteen (18) years since the approval of the application, with no movement forward. I
understand the challenges that the PONC program faces, however, due to lack of pursuing the
purchase, the property is now listed for sale on the open market.
This property is significant to our history and culture, as it has numerous cultural sites, along with
burial sites of our Iwi Kupuna. It would be a travesty to see it purchased and developed as the
current zoning provides. The purpose of the PONC program, which is funded by our property taxes,
clearly allows for the purchase of the property to ensure protection and preservation of areas like
Honolulu Landing.
In closing, I strongly support this Resolution, and formally request that the PONC program purchase
this property in Honolulu Landing, as approved in 2007. Thank you in advance for your kind support.
