Subject: TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF COUNTY PURCHASE OF HONOLULU IN PUNA
Aloha, Council Chair and County Legislative Approval & Acquisition Committee (LAAC):
This is in regard to RESOLUTION NO: 286-25.
I strongly support the county's acquisition of Parcels 1-4-003:020 & 1-4-003:019 (Honolulu Ahupua'a,
Puna).
I know that many others have expressed their support and that you are aware of the reasons why. Put
simply, this land is of great cultural and archaeological importance and it provides critical shoreline access,
and so it is critically important to be preserved.
It is my understanding that this land was already approved for acquisition by PONC in 2007. Please do not
wait any longer!
I deeply care about Hawaii Island, which I am so fortunate to call home. There is so much development
happening here. We are losing our natural habitat and lots are being bulldozed every day. We need to protect
and preserve what we can. The ahupua'a of Honolulu is especially important.
Mahalo nui for doing the right thing by protecting this land for current and future generations.CDM
