I am submitting testimony in support the recommendation from the Land Acquisition Advisory
Committee (LAAC) to acquire and preserve the 364-acre property known as the Honolulu
Landing Project, located in Wa`awa`a, Pahoa on behalf of myself, and on behalf of the
Hawaiian Shores Community Association, of which 1 am currently the Board of Directors,
President.
This property is adjacent to our community.. Most of our residents are aware of the cultural,
historical, and spiritual significance of the property which was once home to an ancient
Hawaiian village.
Acquisition and preservation of the Honolulu Landing Project is an important act of heritage
conservation. This particular site deserves protection, and recognition as a sacred and
historical site rather than a subdivision. The Hawaiian shores and Beaches communities are
not fully built out. Another subdivision is not fiscally warranted. However, native historic sites
are becoming increasingly rare. The Hawaiian Shores Community Association Board of
Directors strongly urge the County to approve Resolution 286-25 now before the Committee
On Legislative Approvals And Acquisition and act quickly to secure the 364 acres, and preserve
them for posterity and future generations.
Maholo,
Jeff Sargent, HSCA HOA President
