Council Testimony
Subject:
Resolution 286-25
We support Resolution 286-25 being heard by the LAAC on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025
As residents of lower Puna, we can attest that Honolulu Landing is a magnificent property and should be
protected from commercial development. Lower Puna has limited ocean access following the 2018
volcanic eruption, and we need to preserve this land in perpetuity, as it already serves as a gathering
place by the ocean, a fishing spot, and a location for collecting opihi. Commercial development of this
site will disrupt the.natural balance in the area and increase traffic, pollution, and strain already limited
resources.
In addition, the Honolulu ahupua'a is home to one of the oldest undisturbed village sites along the Puna
coastline, the area first settled by Polynesians arriving from the South Pacific. This area features
numerous cultural elements and is eligible for inclusion on the list of State Historic Sites.
