As someone who lives in Wa'awa'a and drives through Honolulu every day on my way to and from work I wanted to add some perspective on current use of the area by the community. People gather here to fish, to dive, to celebrate both weddings and funerals. They come here to meditate, to paint, to relax after work, to walk their dogs and to play with their children in the sand. In the area mauka of the road, people gather coconuts and noni and hala. They gather la'au for graduation and kinolau for merrie monarch. Every single day that I drive through this sacred place I see people connectingwith the ocean and the forest in beautiful and importantways. I urge you to do everything in your power to protect Honolulu and preserve it in perpetuity. Me ke ha'aha'a, Ilana Stout Wa'awa'a, Puna, Hawaii Comm. Ref. To: ON Ref. Date
