Council,
RE: STRONG SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION 234-25
First of all, I want to sincerely thank you for the unanimous support of Resolution 234-25
on August 19 in the Policy Committee on Environment and Natural Resources
Management.
I write to you today in my personal capacity as a constituent of Hawai'i County. As a
mother, a water protector, and a member of the Protect Kaho'olawe 'Ghana, I strongly
urge you to support Resolution 234-25 to stop live -fire training and desecration at
Pohakuloa by the U.S. Army.
Continued bombing at Pohakuloa is incompatible with conservation lands, threatens the
Kaohe aquifer, desecrates cultural sites, and puts public health and future generations
at risk. An economy dependent on war is shortsighted, inequitable, and unsustainable.
It is unconscionable for us to fold paper cranes for peace in commemoration of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki while simultaneously allowing the bombing of Pohakuloa to
continue. This resolution is not about denying the Army's role in disaster response, but
about accountability, cleanup, and respect for our'aina and our people.
I respectfully urge you to once again vote unanimously to pass Resolution 234-25 to
protect our island, our culture, and our future.
