1 was grateful to see that your committee on Environmental and Natural Resource Managemerabpassed
Resolution 234-25 unanimously, 8-0. Mahalo to those 8 members!
For those of you who have yet to vote, please consider the fact that the bombing that has taken place and
continues to take place at PTA --this bombing is on conservation lands! There are important
environmental and cultural resources here --precious ecosystems that support native species, an
important aquifer with fresh, drinkable water, and sacred cultural sites.
As someone who is not native to Hawaii, but has lived here for over 25 years, I continue to learn about the
land, the beautiful people, the rich cultural heritage, as well as the atrocities and injustices that took
place here to fill the pockets of wealthy US settlers and their capitalist interests. While I'm sure you
know the terrible history of how US colonizers robbed, raped, murdered, desecrated, and tried to
genocide the Indigenous People here, I hope you are doing everything within your power to support
today's Kanaka Maoli. How will the kind and caring people of tomorrow look on those of us who are living
here today if we don't do everything within our power to support the People of this land in their efforts to
stop military bombs, chemicals, and live fire training from destroying the native fauna and cultural sites,
polluting air, soil, water, food, and desecrating (in horrific and countless ways!) this sacred, life giving
earth?
We've all been watching the military lie about so many things, including the toxins it leaves behind (red
hill, uranium, illegal white phosphorus bombs dropped by Israel during Rimpac games, etc.), and the
fires it creates (burning up Hawaiian homelands). Many of us also have been watching the unbearable
genocide in Palestineas it is being livestreamed onto our phones by both Palestinian victims and OF
soldiers who gloat over their murderess conquests. And those of us who have studied history or lived
Long enough recognize that the US military is an imperial project built to protect wealthy corporate
interests (which it does in the name of democracy) while bleeding and sucking dry precious resources
from the earth and indigenous peoples all over the world. The US military is a huge contributor to climate
change, poverty, sickness, death, and genocide from Hawaii to the Middle East.
Please use your vote to support the Kanaka Maoli--the rightful stewards of these lands who cared for it
beautifully, kept it pristine, and supportive of life for well over 1500 years before the US came along with
its monocropq, military bombing, mass pollution, mass homelessness, and big business interests --one
of the biggest today being military weapons manufacturing. Please vote to support resolution 234-
25. Vote to protect Pohakuloa. Vote to end the army's current lease. Vote against a retention option. No
land swaps! No buffer zones! Vote against annihilation. Vote to protect the people, the land, and our
future.
