Submitted September 2, 2025-- Testimony by Jim Albertini for Malu'Aina in strong support of Resolution
234-25
Aloha Council members,
Our organization, Malu'Aina Center for Non-violent Education and Action, stands in strong support of
Hawaii County Resolution 234-25 calling for an end to bombing and shelling at the military Pohakuloa
Training Area, and no new State lease, land swap, etc. We have previously submitted detailed testimony
in support of this resolution before the Policy Committee on Environmental and Natural Resource
Management on July 22, 2025 and Aug. 17, 2025.
In summary, we say it is time to protect, not further desecrate, Pohakuloa. Pohakuloa is Mauna
Kea. Stop the Bombing. Protect cultural and historic sites. Bombing is desecration. Pollutingthe air,
land, and water with deadly military toxins is desecration. We say no new military leases. Noland
swaps. Conduct a Ka Pa'akai analysis at Pohakuloa and all US military occupied lands in Hawai'i. Make
the military clean up its toxic mess and return the stolen lands to the Kanaka Maoli. The Army is throwing
a few crumbs to try and sedate the opposition. Don't be sedated. The US military has a long history of
desecration, lies, and deceit. Kaho'olawe, Jet fuel contamination at Red Hill, secretly testing chemical
and biological weapons in the Waiakea forest which is Hilo'swatershed, and Depleted Uranium, and
other toxic contamination at Pohakuloa, are just a few examples.
It is time to demilitarize Hawaii and the world for future generations. Mahalo for your efforts. Aloha'Aina,
now and forever!
