I live in Hilo, District 2. 1 am here to submit testimony in strong support of Resolution 234-25. Mahalo to the Policy Committee on Environmental and Natural Resource Management for passing this resolution. I spent a week on Kaho'olawe a couple of decades ago. There is nothing like being there to drive home the fact that the military does not clean up after itself, even when it says it has. Under the current national administration we can expect things to be worse, not better. There is no reason the Army should be given a pass on the required environmental impact statement or to shorten the timeline for the approval process. The people of Hawai' i have played bythe rules and so should the Army. We should resist and make the Army follow the rules. If they exert eminent domain, so be it. We should not sell ourselves out. We need to protect every square foot of our limited and very precious land. Thank you for the opportunity to submit testimony and thank you for your service to the people of Hawai' i County. Ruth E.
