1 am writing to you today from California to strongly support this resolution and to bolster
the voices of Kanaka Maoli. It is their voices that should be considered most and it is their
voice and their ancestors voice that should be determining the outcome of the militaries
presence in Hawai'i. Consider the KU'e petitions. It's an absolute disgrace that the military
is still occupying the islands If Hawai'i, desecrating and causing harm there arid let's be
real, everywhere. The u.s. military only knows and perpetuates death and destruction. They
are not the cause of our peace or freedom. Being rid of them is the peace and freedom we
long desire and that we all need for the future of everyone and everything. patriotism is
dead when all you're upholding is greed and death.
I do support the two amendments being added.
Resolution 234-25 yes and yes with the following two amendments:
1. Change "unless" to "and" so it reads: Rejecting land swaps and lease renewals, and
requiring comprehensive cleanup, restoration, and bioremediation at Pohakuloa.
2. Add: Condemn any backroom deals between the Governor and the military, recognizing
that such secret agreements are unlawful and undermine the interests of Kanaka Maoli.
US Military training at Pohakuloa has already caused serious harm -burning nearly 20,000
acres, contaminating the land, and threatening endangered species. Beneath this area lies
a major aquiferthat supplies fresh water to Hawat't Island, and the military's track record
shows they are not equipped to protect it. There is also serious concern about depleted
uranium left in the soil, which can become airborne during exercises and has known health
risks. Pohakuloa is a wahi pana- a sacred place with deep cultural and ecological
significance. Continued military use is incompatible with its conservation status and the
values of aloha'aina and malama'aina. Support this resolution to protect the land, water,
and people of Hawai'i,Support this resolution to protect our planet. Support this resolution
to protect yourself. Support this resolution because it is your responsibility, it is your
kuleana to do so.
