Council Testimony
SUPPORT for RES. 286-25
I add myvoice to the many who urge the County to acquire Honolulu Landing through the PONC
program. This site embodies the very spirit of preservation —its forests, watershed, coastal habitat, and
deep ties to Hawaiian culture speak to our collective kuleana.
In this time of increasing development pressure, it is essential that we set aside places of enduring value,
ensuring they are safeguarded for future generations rather than left to the uncertainties of the private
market. Several respected community -based nonprofits, including those led by Native Hawaiian leaders,
stand ready to malama this `aina, guiding public access in ways that honor cultural traditions and
respect the land.
The current owners are motivated to sell, and this opportunity may not come again. I respectfully urge
you to support this acquisition
—for the sake of our land, our culture, and our children yet to come.
Sincerely,
o
