Aloha Council members,

Once again, I am urging you to support Resolution 286-25 in using PONC funds to
purchase the extremely important and historical acreage at Honolulu Landing in Puna. It
would be a tragedy if this land falls into the hands of developers and the historical sites on
the property are destroyed.
This property is a site of immense cultural, historical, and spiritual significance, having
once been home to an ancient Hawaiian village. It is highly probable that iwi kupuna
(ancestral remains) and other cultural and archaeological sites remain undisturbed within
its boundaries. The ongoing desecration of sacred sites across Hawal'i Island underscores
the urgency of action, each day that passes without protection increases the risk of
irreparable loss of irreplaceable heritage.
Acquisition and preservation of the Honolulu Landing Project is not merely an act of
heritage conservation —it is an act of justice, dignity, and reconciliation. By protecting this
land, the County has the opportunity to demonstrate leadership in honoring Indigenous
rights, safeguarding cultural patrimony, and modeling responsible stewardship for
governing bodies worldwide.
Please act on this resolution as quickly as possible to protect this extremely vulnerable
land.
