Subject: Testimony in Strong Support of Amendment 20: Prohibiting Single -Use Plastics in
Hawaii
Aloha Chair and Council members,
My name is Sarah Clark, and I have been a Big Island resident since 2009.1 am writing in strong support
of Amendment 20 to prohibit single -use plastics and polystyrene foam in Hawai'i.
Every day I see the impact of disposable plastics on our environment spanning from litter tangled in
native forests to plastic debris washing onto our beaches. These items are used for only a few minutes,
but they remain in our ecosystems for centuries, breaking down into toxic microplastics that harm fish,
seabirds, and ultimately our own communities.
This amendment is about more than convenience, it is about kuleana. We all have a responsibility to care
for our'aina and to ensure that our keiki inherit clean beaches, healthy reefs, and thriving ecosystems.
Allowing single -use plastics to continue polluting Hawai'i undermines our values and the way of life we
hope to preserve.
I respectfully urge you to support Amendment 20. ByvotingYES, you will help protect Hawai'i's people,
culture, and environment for generations to come.
