Subject: For the Sake of Future Generations, Say Yes to the Plastic Ban
Aloha,
My name is Lauren Pizarro and while I do not live in Hawai'i, I've had the incredible privilege of visiting your
islands —an experience that changed me forever.
I am writing to express strong support for the amendment to Chapter 20, which seeks to prohibit single -use
plastics and polystyrene foam in Hawai'i County. I may not call Hawai'i my home, but I have walked its
beaches, swam in its sacred waters and stood in quiet awe of the land.
This is not just a beautiful place as you know. It is a living, breathing ecosystem with profound cultural, spiritual
and ecological significance. In my travels there, I saw firsthand how plastic waste washes up on otherwise
pristine shores. It felt heartbreaking —and wrong —to witness something so sacred being treated as disposable.
As a guest, I felt a responsibility to respect and honor this place. Now, from afar, I feel a responsibility to
support the people of Hawaii as they fight to protect it. This amendment is a crucial step toward that
protection.
The rest of the world should be looking to Hawaii as a leader in environmental stewardship. Banning harmful
single -use plastics isn't just good policy —it's a bold act of love and respect for the land, for indigenous values
and for future generations.
Please know that even beyond your shores, there are people who care deeply about what happens there —and
who believe you have both the moral authority and the political opportunity to lead by example.
Vote YES on the amendment. Ban single -use plastics. Uphold the sacredness of Hawaii.
