I am writing in support of Resolution 311-25 which allocates $5,000 in
contingency relief funds to our agency, 77ie.Are_of Kona, for our Kona Krafls
Group Home Maintenance Project.
The Arc of Kona is a non-profit organization that provides services and
supports to individuals with disabilities that encourages personal growth anti
quality of life through empowerment and choice throughout the island of
Hawaii. Our group hone is located in Captain Cook and is the only group
home specifically for people with intellectual and developmental.disabilitics on
Hawaii Island. Thegroup home is an independent living program in a
supportive community living environment that leads to overall greater
independence for each individual living in the home.
Earlier this year, we completed a CDBG grant funded renovation of the home
which included the renovation of-2 bathrooms, new windows, new light
fixtures and ceiling fans, and exterior pointing. 'there was not enough grant
funds to paint the interior of the home. Repainting the interior will protect the
walls from various types of damage; be easier to clean and maintain, lead to'a
healthier living environment, and will provide an aesthetically appealing and
inviting atmosphere. The $5,000 in contingency relief funds will help with the
expense of painting the interior of the home which is estimated to cost $30,000..
'the remainder of the interior painting cost will be funded via private donors
and agency reserve funds.
