HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 447 Draft 01 2024-2026A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION OF AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS FOR THE HAWAI‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT. WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Charter of the County of Hawai‘i (hereinafter “the Charter”) provides that the Council, “on behalf of the county, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate”; and WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(a), of the Hawai‘i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended) (hereinafter “the Code”) provides, in part, that “gifts or donations of money, securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the department of finance may be accepted by resolution approved by the council”; and WHEREAS, Hilo Benioff Medical Center Foundation, a non-profit entity, wishes to donate eighty-two automatic external defibrillators (“AEDs”), which have an estimated total value of approximately $130,000, to the Hawai‘i Police Department; and WHEREAS, these AEDs are intended to be deployed to police officers for use in cardiac events; and WHEREAS, the Hawai‘i Police Department is grateful for this donation and recommends its acceptance by the Council; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that, pursuant to Section 13-12 of the Charter and Section 2-162 of the Code, the donation from Hilo Benioff Medical Center Foundation hereinabove described is hereby accepted. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to William V. Brilhante, Jr., Managing Director; Sherry D. Bird, Assistant Chief, Hawai‘i Police Department; and Lisa Rantz, Executive Director, Hilo Benioff Medical Center Foundation, 1190 Waiānuenue Avenue, Hilo, HI 96720.
