Many years ago residents would always contribute to the upkeep of their roads but times have changed and people seem to feel no responsibility to do what is right. In the case of Hawaiian Acres we are down to maybe 12% of landowners paying their road dues which has reached the breaking point of volunteers with no funds to make roads passable. One by one most services/vendors have refused to drive our roads.. Now even the school bus will not drive our roads to pick up kids. I no longer see the senior bus and my husband and I worry that when we can no longer drive, we will have to leave our home. (we are both near 80) Please pass Bill 38 without the sunset date. If this bill takes effect next year, and then the credit takes place the following year if i am reading this bill correctly, then expires or sunsets would be the third year, this is hardly enough time for property owners to even know it exists let alone enough revenue for the road committees to make any substantial headway on their roads. For years the council has kicked this can down the road. I have attended many meetings, was on the first connectivity committee which the council passed after many grueling months. Then a new administration moved in and put that on hold, and decided they would start their own committee... I think this was close to 10 years ago. My mantra has always been "Help us Help Ourselves". This bill would do that but it will take time for the citizens to trust the county that this will happen and the time frame offered in the sunset clause is just too tight. Please do the right thing; Please do it now and then follow through so those of us who are seniors, live long enough to see it happen. thank you. Linnette and Ronald Quade Comm. Ref. To: Ref.
