Thankyou for this opportunity to express my enthusiastic support for our County's Office of R&D
to continue its facilitation of the collaboration between local food producers and visitor industry
buyers. As co-owner and operator of Adaptations Inc. since 1993, I have seen many County efforts
to improve the relationship between farmers, ranchers and, fishers and our world class resorts, _
restaurants and institutions. No effort made thus far has had such an immediately and measurably
successful outcome as that of our Local Food Purchasing Event held at The Westin Hapuna Beach
Resort in February 2625. This gathering fostered understanding, shared insights into challenges
and obstacles, but most of all gave us a feeling of agency through fellowship to fulfill a common
desire - increasing locally grown food access to eager market Having the support of the County in
this pursuit is essential to build on our success. The partnership with Hawaii County R&D, food
hubs, resorts, producers, has been instrumental in advancing local food purchasing and
strengthening community resilience on Hawaii Island. Continuing this momentum is crucial.
This effort is in alignment with the County"s stated economic goals: (1) Our economy is diverse,
regenerative, and innovative, improving and maintaining the financial well-being of our residents
with a focus on increasing local economic opportunities. (2) Agriculture is a robust, diversified
sector that addresses food security and includes a broad range of agricultural -based businesses
that highlight value. (3) A high quality of life for residents is maintained when a regenerative
visitor industry balances the preservation of natural and cultural resources with responsible
visitation.
Economic Objectives:
• Increase the growth and health of small businesses.
• Incorporate resiliency, diversity, and innovation in County programs, plans, and research
to support healthy economic development and revitalization.
• Increase interagency coordination, programs, and policy initiatives that improve local
agriculture infrastructure.
Support the visitor industry investment in its connection with communities, the'aina, and
our historic and multicultural heritage.

Adaptations Inc. is a certified organic farm since 1979 and regional Food Hub since 1993.Our
Food Hub connects about 230 local family farms to resident families through our Fresh Feast CSA
and to wholesale customers.
