Regarding General Plan 2045: 1 am a conservationist with
dual citizenship of the United States and Australia. My
teacher, the late Edward O Wilson, wrote "For the first time
in history, a conviction has developed among those who
can actually think more than a decade ahead that we are
playing a global endgame."
He wrote that nine years ago, in Half Earth (2016), a book
that says we must set aside half of all land to let the
millions of species restore Nature's work.
I see that General Plan 2045 intends to keep much of the
Island as "parks." So I should be rejoicing but, no, I urge
rejection of 2045. It contains other things that are
frightening. I ask"How could anybody be talking about
increasing our 5G technology?" It's already understood to
harm Nature, and I suspect it is sinister, as it has never
been debated, just pushed upon us. Bywhom? I don't
know.
That said, I greatly appreciate the Hawaiian people's
devotion to'aina: Plus, it seems to attach so well to culture,
religion, music, and aloha. I credit composer Liko Martin for
the following song. His lyrics constitute my testimony today,
October 8, 2025:
"As I travel from place to place, some familiar and some
strange, to hear the ancient chantings of our home. As I
listen to the stories, my eyes have seen the glories. So let us
raise our voice in song to save the land.
"All Hawaii, stand together. It's now and forever, to raise
your voices and hold your banners high. We shall stand as a
nation, to guide the destinies of our generations, to sing
and praise the glories of our land. E-ola, a-ola, a-ola, na
kine-e."
Council Members, please, please put General Plan 2045 on
a back burner until we understand ourselves better.
