This department created by a ballot initiative in 2000 needs to have leadership that has the knowledge and experience identified in this bill. This wording for the position description acknowledges the value of experience over a specific degree in higher education which seems suitable in the context of our current environmental issues. While the primary duties of the DEM relate to solid waste and wastewater, the department may also be tasked with issues relating to environmental quality associated with climate change. As such, this expansive position description may allow the administration more latitude in seeking appropriate candidates for the directorship. ':4 o C: cC3 Mahalo,?
