I greatly appreciate your attefttion-, ' consideration. 1 am writing to express support for due process and the protection of constitutional rights for all residents of Hawai'i Island. I wholeheartedly support the request for the Mayor to review existing and potential agreements with public and private partners to ensure constitutional rights of residents are protected. I urge the Hawaii Police Department to limit its involvement with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement to cases involving criminal activity. As we watch the massive expansion of federal overreach by ICE and DHS as well as the federalization of troops and the National Guard nationally, we in Hawai'i ask all of our elected officials to prepare. We urge you to be transparent and to reassure the public that safety and rule of law protections for ALL community members are your highest priority. Please proactively protect our whole community (residents, visitors, immigrants, etc.). The deeply troubling actions of masked and unidentifiable federal agents will inevitably reach into our community in the coming months. We, the public, need to be reassured that you have made a commitment to maintain our trust. I (and my friends, neighbors, and colleagues) will continue to watch the County Council, Mayor's office, and Police Commission in the coming weeks and months to ensure our representatives are listening and acting in a timely manner. Please work closely with immigrant advocates and legal and law enforcement experts who are diligently mobilizing statewide and nationally. We must stand together united. Thank you for this opportunity. Tanya Dean resident of Waikoloa Can - Ref. To: Ref. Date 'OCT
