I urge you to support this resolution reaffirmingthe Island of Hawai'i's commitment to the First, Fifth, and
Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.
As you well know, our island is an island of immigrants. The Constitution is unequivocal on the right to
due process, explicitly stating that "No person shall be denied" —making clear that all of our island's
residents are entitled to these protections.
This reaffirmation will strengthen both the Hawaii Police Commission and our off icers.to execute their
duties in full compliance with the U.S. Constitution.
I especially appreciate the resolution's language that "These rights are not privileges, but guarantees."
This is perfectly stated.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our community.
