Aloha Chair and Members of the Hawai'i County Council, I have dealt with ICE in the past and know how frustrating they
can be. We are all immigrants. If criminal laws against our population are broken it is one thing. But workers that
improve our lives and pay taxes should be allowed work permits and sponsorship by responsible party.
I am writing to express that Mayor Alameda reviews the existing and potential agreements with public and private
partners to ensure constitutional rights of residents are protected and requests the Hawaii Police Department to limit its
involvement with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement to cases
involving criminal activity.
Further and clearly requesting to rescind all MOUs with ICE/HSI, reject any 287(g) agreements with the federal
government and ensure Hawaii Police Department officers are always properly identified and in uniform, except in
legitimate undercover criminal operations, not immigration raids.
