Testimony in Support of Resolution 320-25
Chair Inaba, Vice Chair Onishi, and Councilmembers,
UNITE HERE Local 5 represents 10,000 working people in the hotel, food service and health care
industries across Hawaii. We are in support of Resolution 320-25, but we would recommend
strengthening the language to start covering the due process protections our communities need.
Among other things, the resolution should be amended to:
• Prohibit local law enforcement from asking individuals about their immigration status and
sharing that information with ICE;
• Prohibit Hawaii from honoring detainer requests on behalf of ICE or DHS;
• Prevent local police from enforcing federal immigration law.
We urge you to pass Resolution 320-25. a
