Proposed Bill 52
I support allowing hens in more zoning districts but am in opposition of some parts of the bill. I have a lot
of family and friends that have backyard flocks that are working their way to being more sustainable. Not
allowing any roosters and limiting the amount of hens feels too restrictive. Hens only lay for a certain
number of years and roosters are needed to fertilize the eggs to replenish the flock.
Not allowing the sale of eggs or hens is also very restrictive. With the price of eggs in stores, purchasing
from a household hennery can be cheaper.
I understand some neighbors may complain about the noise roosters make
but there are already a lot of
noisy feral roosters running free in all our neighborhoods
