Aloha Hawaii County Council,
I am submitting this in support of BULK, draft 2, along with its proposed amendments.
My name is Rojelin Capueta; a Junior in a student -led program whose goal is to reduce the use of plastic.
Plastic is an enormous threat and has significantly affected not only me, but the environment that our
'ohana lives in. Plastic has been found in so many areas of odr'aina and it needs to be improved.
Through our program we've found that compostable foodware is a great alternative that can go back into
our food systems and soil.
Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to our island's health, ecosystems, and future generations.
Every year, more than 11 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean, breaking down into microplastics
that now contaminate our air, water, and even human blood and organs. Hawai'i's marine life —turtles,
seabirds, and fish —are ingesting plastics at alarming rates, and these same toxins enter our food chain.
