Council Testimony
Subject:
Bill 83
Aloha Chair and Councilmembers,
My name is Charles Warr. I am resident of Hawai'i county and I'm writing in strong support of Bill 83.
Why this matters:
Reduce plastic at the source. We can't recycle our way out of this; most "recyclable" food -service
plastics don't actually get recycled here. Source reduction is the only credible path.
Protect our island environment. Plastic litter harms marine life, shows up on our beaches and in our
waste stream, and is rapidly accumulating in our landfill.
This is a fair, workable transition. Compostable or reusable alternatives exist today. Many local
businesses have already made the shift since the County's 2018 EPS foam ban. Bill83 extends that
progress and meets the Country's Zero Waste goals.
Please pass Bill 83. Mahalo for your leadership.
