Testimony Regarding Bill 52— Household Henneries
Aloha Council Members,
I am a resident of Hawaii Island and a parent / caregiver writing to express my concerns about Bill 52.
Backyard egg production has helped my household feed our family, reduce grocery costs, teach our children about
sustainability. Raising hens is more than a hobby; it's a practical way to support nutrition, resilience, and education,
especially during times of economic uncertainty.
While I understand the intent to regulate household henneries, I'm concerned that the proposed fowl limit may
unintentionally affect families who are responsibly raising birds for food or modest income.
Mahalo for considering the bigger picture and for your commitment to our community. I trust that together, we can craft
a policy that protects public health while empowering families to steward their land and nourish their communities.
Sincerely,
o
