BILL 83- Relating to Plastic and Polysyrene Waste co
o
" POSITION: OPPOSE
To Hawal'I County Council = o
_.
w
From: Matthew Gustayson / Goose's Edge, Inc.
Mr. Chairinaba and Vice Chair Onishi, alongwith members of the council,
0ur family business has been operating in Hawaii since 1985. We area fully locally owned business
which employes dozens of employees across County of Hawaii alongwith 3 other Hawaiian Islands. r
t' ThIsoverreach of containerbans beingconsidered will considerably hurt'locally owned
plastic
companies. The expense and the presentation of the Items to customers will significantly be impacted. `-
Please keep in mind that the giant mainland and foreign corporations who are gaining more and more #r_
footprint of Hawaii resident dollars are exporting that profit OUT of Hawaii. Locally owned businesses provide
not only jobs but the money generated is Invested and spent back Into the community `
k a , rx ♦ o- ` t
Inferior take out containers being proposed will do no difference to
.
The expense and the quality of the
the current trash issues. There is a problem at the core and that is this county and state does not have the
" ability to dispose and recycle disposables. The focus should be there and not punishing small businesses for
u
providingtothe community.`
" I urge the council to reconsider this Bill and vote no. in the future it could be reconsidered if the
infrastructure is there to handle changes. -
Banning products does nothingto solve issues all it does is make everyone feel like they are doing
something for the environment, however the real issue is the underlying infrastructure that needs to be
hnndlnd first.
