Subject: Testimony regarding Bill 83
Aloha Council members,
My name is Stanley Haraguchi, and I am the General Manager of Restaurant Kenichi. Having worked in several
industries throughout my lifetime, (including contruction, athletics, education and hospitality) and having
created many memories with people all over this great country, state, island and town I feel as if my opinion
may matter as it comes to matters such as these. As a nation, as well as a county, families and small
businesses are struggling to regain their footing after the econimic crisis created by Covid-19 and the
processes that our governments decided would keep us the safest. The increase in food cost alone has put a
severe financial burden on most of us inside and outside of the service industry. I believe that it is great that
some of our council members and people are taking initiative to try and protect our planet from the ilks of
petroluem based products. However, I would ask that we all take a step back, and ask ourselves, "at what
cost?". Further price increases, more social division, possibly more small business shut down(opposite of
stimulating the ecnomy) and of course, if anyone has tried to eat on the go with those pulp plates, the
structural integrity is terrible. I do not know our council members' motivation to become council members,
but I would like to believe that some part of that motivation included doing what is right for their contituents,
what is right for their people. I believe that this bill is not currently what is best for our people, I believe it will
make some people feel good about what they have done for the planet, but that is about it.
