COUNTY OF HAWAM <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAPI <br />458 2G <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN <br />INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAFI, <br />DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, TO RECEIVE A <br />GRANT OF WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT PROGRAM <br />FUNDS. <br />WHEREAS, Section 46-7 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes requires the consent of the <br />Council in order for the County to enter into an agreement with the federal government or any <br />other public body respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted to the <br />County by law and furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with <br />projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, has <br />authorized $1,600,000 in federally -derived funds to be provided to the County as a grant for the <br />County's Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act program; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development (hereinafter the <br />"Department") wishes to enter into an agreement with the State to receive these grant funds; and <br />WHEREAS, these funds will be used to support adults, dislocated workers, and youth by <br />providing services that enhance employment opportunities, job retention, earnings, skill <br />development, and literacy; and <br />WHEREAS, acceptance and utilization of these funds will support the Department's <br />goals of strengthening the quality of the workforce, reducing reliance on public assistance, and <br />improving the productivity and competitiveness of our local economy; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, <br />pursuant to Section 46-7 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter <br />into an agreement with the State of Hawaii, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, for <br />the purposes hereinabove described. <br />
