A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT TO AWARD FUNDS FOR THE KĪLAUEA RECOVERY GRANT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended) (hereinafter “the Code”) provides that grants awarded “in excess of
$25,000 to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in a resolution”; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136 of the Code defines “nonprofit organization” as “an organization that is registered and in good standing in the State of Hawai‘i as a nonprofit
organization and maintains a 501(c)(3) charitable designation from the Internal Revenue Service”; and
WHEREAS, the organizations specified in “Exhibit A”, attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, which correspondingly qualify as nonprofit organizations as defined above,
will provide relief, recovery, mitigation, and long-term resilience for disaster damages, losses, and suffering caused by the 2018 Kīlauea eruption; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Department wishes to provide a total of $6,478,873.00 to these organizations as outlined in “Exhibit A”; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that, in accordance with Section 2-139 of the Code, the grant awards as identified in Exhibit A are hereby approved.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable C. Kimo Alameda, Mayor of the County of Hawaiʻi; Diane T. Nakagawa, Director of
Finance; and Jeffrey W. Darrow, Planning Director.
