A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION OF A PRE-TRAINED NARCOTICS CANINE AND ASSOCIATED HANDLER TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION TO THE HAWAI‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Charter of the County of Hawai‘i (hereinafter “the Charter”) provides that the Council, “on behalf of the county, may accept gifts of donations
of money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate”; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(a), of the Hawai‘i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended) (hereinafter “the Code”) provides, in part, that “gifts or donations of money,
securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the department of finance may be accepted by resolution approved by the council”; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island K9 Association, a non-profit entity, wishes to bestow a donation of a pre-trained narcotics canine and associated handler training and certification to the
Hawai‘i Police Department with an estimated total value of approximately $31,000.00, and
WHEREAS, this donation will be utilized by the Hawai‘i Police Department’s Canine Program on the west side of Hawai‘i Island; and
WHEREAS, the Hawai‘i Police Department is grateful for this donation and recommends its acceptance by the Council; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that, pursuant to Section 13-12 of the Charter and Section 2-162 of the Code, the donation from the Hawaii Island K9 Association
hereinabove described is hereby accepted.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to William V. Brilhante, Jr., Managing Director; Diane T. Nakagawa, Director of Finance; Sherry
D. Bird, Assistant Chief, Hawai‘i Police Department; and Tammy Passmore, Board Chair, Hawaii Island K9 Association, P.O. Box 29, Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i 96745.
