Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred
Communication No. 705, reports as follows:
Communication No. 705, transmitted by Mayor C. Kimo Alameda, dated January 15, 2026,
requests the Council's review and confirmation of the nomination of Kanoe Suganuma Wilson to the
Windward Planning Commission.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Micah Alameda, was present in the Hilo Chambers to introduce
Ms. Wilson, who was also present in the Hilo Chambers.
Committee Members Ashley L. Kierkiewicz, Rebecca Villegas, and Michelle M. Galimba spoke in
favor of the appointment. Member Kierkiewicz mentioned that this isn't just an advisory role and
sometimes their Commissiod decisions carry the weight of law. Member Kierkiewicz has witnessed
the nominee's work on other boards and commissions and she believes that Ms. Wilson has passion
and experience to serve in this role well. Member Kierkiewicz added that she knows that Ms. Wilson
shows up and is committed. ,
Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 7, Section 6-7.3 of the Hawaii County Charter, members of the
Windward Planning Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Communication No. 705, and recommends confmmation of the appointment of
Kanoe Suganuma Wilson to the Windward Planning Commission.
