A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION OF FOOTWEAR AND REUSABLE BAGS FOR THE HAWAI‘I FIRE DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Charter of the County of Hawai‘i (hereinafter “the Charter”) provides that the Council, “on behalf of the county, may accept gifts of donations
of money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate”; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(a), of the Hawai‘i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended) (hereinafter “the Code”) provides, in part, that “gifts or donations of money,
securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the department of finance may be accepted by resolution approved by the council”; and
WHEREAS, OluKai Retail, LLC, wishes to donate two hundred seven (207) pairs of footwear, which have an estimated total value of approximately $15,000, and one hundred fifty (150) reusable
bags, which have an estimated total value of approximately $1,500, to the Hawai‘i Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, this footwear will offer secure footing and durable protection in challenging ocean and island environments and is specifically designed for beach lifeguards; and
WHEREAS, the Hawai‘i Fire Department is grateful for this donation and recommends its acceptance by the Council; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that, pursuant to Section 13-12 of the Charter and Section 2-162 of the Code, the donation from OluKai Retail, LLC, hereinabove
described is hereby accepted.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to William V. Brilhante, Jr., Managing Director; Daniel Volpe, Acting Fire Chief, Hawai‘i Fire Department;
and Archie Kalepa, OluKai Retail, LLC, 10 Faraday, Irvine,
CA 92618.
