MEMORANDUM:
TO: James Y. Arakaki, Chair
and All Council Members
FROM: J. Curtis Tyler III, Council Member
RE: Bill 276 - Disclosure of Personal Financial Interest
This memorandum is a follow-up to my verbal declaration at the August 8u' meeting of the
Finance Committee and my previously written disclosures of personal financial interest in
Hawaiian Electric Industries, Incorporated (HEI).
Consistent with Chapter 2, Article 15 of the Hawaii County Code and Section 14-3, Article 14 of
the Hawaii County Charter, I previously have filed written disclosure statements evidencing my
ownership of HE] stock. On the date of this letter, I own 179 shares of HEI stock, valued at
approximately $5,800.00. Other than my inherent rights as a stock holder, I do not possess any
direct authority or control within such company which would result in any direct financial
benefit to me or my immediate family. In fact, since inheriting this stock many years ago, all
dividend distributions have remained with the firm under its Dividend Reinvestment Program.
Nevertheless, since Hawaii Electric Light Company, a subsidiary of HEI, may be directly affected
by the passage of Bill 276, I am submitting this memo and supplemental written disclosure in
accordance with Council Rule 11-8.
Further, if you or any other Council Member feel that this personal financial interest is substantial
and/or might reasonably tend to create a conflict with the public interest in the referenced matter
pending before the Council, I ask that I be excused from voting thereon.
