Dear Judge Chang:
Re: Public Service Company Tax Settlement Aereement
I was able to meet with representatives of the three other counties on September 6-8, 2000, to
go through the proposed settlement and see if I could gain a consensus among the counties to
proceed with the settlement.
The following are the positions of the counties at this time:
1) Kauai--agrees with the settlement, but would like to have some assurance that
transient accommodation tax (TAT) will not be reduced correspondingly.
2) Maui--agrees with the settlement; has same concerns with Kauai about TAT.
3) Honolulu--agrees with settlement in general; has concerns about implementation
before it will commit to go forward. It is my understanding that you will be meeting
with them this week.
Based on the positions of the counties, I will be working with Milton Yasunaga to finalize a
settlement document that we can forward to the parties.
