A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING AN AWARD OF GRANT FUNDS FOR THE
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT.
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Charter of the County ofHawaN
(hereinafter "the Charter”) provides that the Council, "on behalf of the county, may accept gifts
of donations of money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in
real estate"; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(a), of the Hawaii County Code 1983
(2016 Edition, as amended) (hereinafter "the Code") provides, in part, that "gifts or donations of
money, securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the
department of finance may be accepted by resolution approved by the council"; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Community Foundation (hereinafter "HCF"), a non-profit entity,
has authorized $12,500 in grant funds from HCF's Ulupono Fund, a donor -advised fund, to be
awarded to the Department of Research and Development; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this grant award is to fund the West Hawaii Food Systems
Network Specialist position; and
WHEREAS, the use of these funds will support critical capacity to ensure that West
Hawaii community voices, regional stakeholders, and local initiatives are meaningfully
integrated into the County's Agriculture and Food Systems Plan and Community Food Security
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development is grateful for this grant
award and recommends its acceptance by the Council; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF IIAWAPI that,
pursuant to Section 13-12 of the Charter and Section 2-162 of the Code, the grant award from the
Hawaii Community Foundation as hereinabove described is hereby accepted.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to William V. Brilhante, Jr., Managing Director; and Benson P. Medina, Director of
Research and Development.
