HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 548 Draft 01 2024-2026A RESOLUTION AWARDING FIVE STEWARDSHIP GRANTS FROM THE PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE, AND NATURAL RESOURCES PRESERVATION MAINTENANCE FUND AS RECOMMENDED BY THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2027. WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 10-16 of the Charter of the County of Hawai‘i (hereinafter “the Charter”), non-profit organizations may apply for and receive grant-in-aid funding out of the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund for stewardship projects directly related to “public safety maintenance and preservation” of lands and easements acquired with the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-217 of the Hawai‘i County Code, the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission (hereinafter the “Commission”) reviewed eight applications for stewardship grants and conducted interviews with six grant applicants over two meetings held on November 10, 2025, and January 12, 2026; and WHEREAS, on January 29, 2026, the Commission recommended to the Director of Finance that six stewardship applications be awarded grant funds; and WHEREAS, the Director of Finance recommends awarding five stewardship grants, totaling $477,226.50, to four nonprofit organizations; and WHEREAS, the recommended grants, including recipients, fund amounts, and projects to be funded, are described in “Exhibit A”, attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that, in accordance with Section 10-16(h) of the Charter, five stewardship grants are hereby awarded to the non-profit organizations as set forth in “Exhibit A”, in the amounts and for the purposes identified therein. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized and directed to make the necessary payments or expenditures out of the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund in accordance with the terms of this resolution. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to Diane T. Nakagawa, Director of Finance.
