SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
Banyan Drive, Ohai Street and Puueo Street
Parking Prohibited During Certain Hours/Tow-Away Zones (Ord. 96-93)
Sections of Banyan Drive, Ohai Street and Puueo Street were established as parking prohibited during
certain hours/tow-away zones for street cleaning purposes under Ordinance No. 96-93.
Currently, the parking prohibited hours (9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) conflict with the normal working hours
of the Highway Maintenance Division night crew. The night crew is responsible for the street cleaning
function and operate from 1 ]:00 p.m. to "1:00 a.m., Sunday through Friday. Therefore, to accommodate
the night crew function, we need to amend the parking prohibited hours for the subject streets to
4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. The days of the week will remain the same.
We request the Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10 Section 24-281, Schedule 29 (Parking
prohibited during certain hours on certain streets; tow-away zone), under (c) Hilo be amended as
described in the attached draft for an ordinance. Location maps are attached.
