COUNTY OF HAWAI`I <br />STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />RESOLUTION NO. 542 2G <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO SOUTH HAWAI`I <br />SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA FOR A SUSTAINABLE ORCHESTRA IN KA`U. <br />WHEREAS, South Hawaii Symphony Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization <br />whose mission is to present the highest -quality performances of great music, bringing national <br />and international distinction to the orchestra and its community; to delight and educate audiences <br />of all ages and backgrounds, and enhance the cultural vitality and quality of life in these islands; <br />and to operate in a financially sound manner; and <br />WHEREAS, South IIawai`i Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra that is <br />building capacity to present regular orchestral concerts in the Ka`u district, a project that will <br />provide musicians in Ka`u, of all ability levels, with a venue for supported rehearsals and free <br />public performances in their community; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizational events and <br />public programs that enrich the lives of community members through activities that promote <br />compliance with liquor laws; and <br />WHEREAS, South Hawaii Symphony Orchestra is requesting funding assistance to <br />purchase sheet music and help cover professional fees for guest musicians, which will serve a <br />public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting educational concerns, and the interests of <br />culture and the arts of our island; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in <br />accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as <br />amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 are hereby transferred to the <br />Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to South Hawaii Symphony Orchestra for the <br />expenses and purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached hereto and <br />incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: <br />
