Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 548-26, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 548-26, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa via Communication
No. 860, dated April 2, 2026, awards five stewardship grants from the Public Access, Open Space,
and Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund as recommended by the Director of Finance
for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027.
This resolution authorizes the Director of Finance to provide Public Access, Open Space, and
F- Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund Stewardship grants totaling $477,266.50 to four
nonprofit organizations, pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawaii County Charter.
Committee Member Heather Kimball requested that a report be provided at the next hearing
_ reflecting all organizations that applied for this stewardship grant but were not awarded for the
record. Program Manager Ben Schapiro confirmed that he will provide the requested report at the
upcoming Council meeting.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 548-26, and
recommends its adoption.
