State Department of Transportation Public Affairs Office - Safe Community

Dear Chief Carvalho:
Attached is an amended copy of the modified application for highway safety project
reimbursement grant number AL2K-02(01-H-02), entitled "HCPD Sobriety Checkpoint
Expansion".
The modification increases the HCPD grant obligation by $15,000 from $40,320 to
$55,320. The purpose of this addendum is to increase the number of sobriety checkpoints in
Hawaii County by 32. The additional checkpoints will allow HCPD to screen 8,000 vehicles,
make 20 DUI arrests, 30 additional other arrests, and issue 150 traffic citations..

11. ACCEPTANCE OF CONDITIONS. It is understood and agreed by the undersigned that a reimbursement grant received as a
result of this application is subject to Public Law 89-564 (Highway Safety Act of 1966) and all administrative regulations
governing grants established by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the State of Hawaii. It is expressly agreed that
this project constitutes an official part of the Hawaii Highway Safety Program and that said applicant agency will meet the
requirements as set forth herein, including accompanying schedules A,B,C & D, which are incorporated herein and made a part
of this application. Authorization to proceed with this Highway safety Project is requested.

This addendum to grant number AL2K-02(01-H-02), Entitled " HCPD Sobriety Checkpoint"
increases the grant amount by $15,000 from $40,320.00 to $55,320.00. The purpose of the
addendum is to allow the grant to increase the number of sobriety checkpoints by 32,
screen 8000 vehicles, arrest 20 violators for DUI offenses, make 30 additional arrests for
other violations and issue 150 citations for traffic violations.
