HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 589 Draft 01 2024-2026 COUNTY OF HAWAII / } STATE OF HAWAII :•1TF GF•M►•� RESOLUTION NO. 589 2 S A RESOLUTION AWARDING THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I WAIWAI NONPROFIT GRANTS-IN-AID FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30,2027. WHEREAS, Section 2-139(a)(1)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended) (hereinafter, "the Code") states that the Director of Finance shall establish a sum of at least$2,500,000 to be available for funding requests by nonprofit organizations through the County's Waiwai grants-in-aid program; and WHEREAS, Section 2-138 of the Code provides, in part that"nonprofit organizations to receive grant funding shall yield direct benefits to the public and accomplish public purposes within the County"; and WHEREAS, on March 3, 2026,the Council's Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions (hereinafter, "LAAC")formed an Ad Hoc Committee for the purpose of reviewing nonprofit applications and making award recommendations; and WHEREAS, at a meeting of the LAAC on May 19,2026,the Ad Hoc Committee submitted its recommendations via Communication No. 752.02 to award Waiwai grants-in-aid to sixty-two eligible programs for a total of$2,515,000; and WHEREAS, a list of the recommended nonprofit organizations to receive funding is attached hereto and incorporated herein as "Exhibit A"; now,therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that pursuant to Section 2-139 of the Code, Waiwai grants-in-aid totaling$2,515,000 are hereby awarded to the nonprofit organizations as set forth in"Exhibit A". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that pursuant to Section 2-139 of the Code,the Director of Finance shall notify the nonprofit organizations of their funding or lack thereof by August 31,2026. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to Diane T.Nakagawa,Director of Finance. Dated at Kona ,Hawai`i,this 17th day of June ,20 26.
