Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred
Communication No. 911, reports as follows:
Communication No. 911, transmitted by Mayor C. Kimo Alameda, dated May 14, 2026, requests
the Council's review and confirmation of the nomination of Anna Liu to the Board of Appeals.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Micah Alameda, was present in the Hilo Chambers to introduce
Ms. Liu, who was also present in the Hilo Chambers.
Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz spoke in favor of the appointment.
Committee Member James E. Hustace asked Mr. Alameda if this was the final vacancy for this board.
Mr. Alameda explained that there will be one remaining vacancy after Ms. Liu's confirmation.
Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 9, Section 6-9.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, members of the
Board of Appeals shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Communication No. 911, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of
of Anna Liu to the Board of Appeals.
